THOUGHTS & COMMENTS

Many might think that "Subject & Predicate" is a departure to what I have listened to, or composed, in the past. I’ve
played, performed, and composed new wave music (Blue Llama Parade), new age music (as a solo artist), punk
(Rabid Dog, Radioactive Scum From Mars and Debauchery), progressive metal (Amon-Ra), and Christian rock
(Catalyst, as its founding member), and was a contributing songwriter/keyboardist/pianist in the
Byron Nemeth Group’s “100 Worlds” project (instrumental progressive rock).

Today, I would term the music I’m creating as neo-classical with a hint of jazz and pop. I’m not classically trained,
but I would tend to think I’m classic rock trained (laughs).

Each step on this journey had a level of creativity to it with music expressed from the soul. Thankfully, I’ve finally
settled into one genre…well, maybe. Art and music have no defining boundaries except by people who place the boundaries there. And honestly, isn’t it more fun to color outside of the lines once in a while?

In essence, "Subject & Predicate" is a great departure from my previous projects, but in the sense of playing from the heart and soul, it's a natural arrival. I alluded to writing a CD like this, back in 1992, when I was interviewed as a
member of Amon-Ra. I had been composing instrumental music prior to the Amon-Ra sessions. “Intro Into Infinity”
on the Amon-Ra release was a mere glimpse of this. A great and insightful friend, during the Amon-Ra sessions, was trying to “influence” me to go in this direction rather than what I was working on. We were in a large studio, which had
a grand piano, and there’s where I would relax. I released tension by playing the piano without trying to compose.
Some amazing music began to pour from the fingers and the soul. Today, I thank this person for their insight of what I really should be doing, even if it’s about 10 years later. I guess I was apprehensive since this style of music really
bears the musical soul more directly than the music I’d been working on. Hmmm, the strange animal fear is!

Once I dumped the idea of being this "rock star", the music became more creative and flowed much easier. I think
cutting all the hair off helped also (laughs). Anyhow, it was nothing more than finally allowing God to musically work through me rather than me trying to work through God. Seems amazing what happens once the ego steps aside.
This is where the idea of “Subject & Predicate” came from. Each of us is the “subject” and the things, places, and
experiences we have are the “predicate”.

Keep an eye on the journal for updates…and thanks!

          “Subject & Predicate”

In our lives, we all are
          the “subject”, and the
          things that occur with,
          and to us, are our
          “predicate” moments.
